Pre & Post Cruise Trips in Alaska
You’ve traveled all the way to Alaska to enjoy a cruise in one of the world’s most untouched landscapes. The accommodations are elegant, and the scenery absolutely spectacular. Still, it’s difficult to feel like you’re discovering the heart of the place unless you actually get off the ship and venture deep into the wilderness—to the spots no cruise ship or bus can access. On our pre- and post-cruise extensions, we fly you into Alaska’s most backcountry to stay at one of the top wilderness resorts in the state. There, your authentic lodge experience will see you exploring pristine countryside with superb hosts, expert guides and naturalists. Activities range from glacier trekking and dogsledding to interpretive walks and wildlife viewing—it’s up to you.
Redoubt Bay Lodge
Accessible only by floatplane, Redoubt Bay Lodge offers the only accommodations within a 171,000-acre critical habitat area that boasts one of the densest bear populations in the State. On our Bear Viewing at Redoubt Bay Lodge package, a naturalist guide will take you by boat for an up close and safe view of the lodge’s closest neighbors. It’s also a perfect spot for sport fishing, hiking, and lake kayaking
Winterlake Lodge
This is one of our very favorite lodges. Arriving by floatplane, you’ll immediately appreciate the setting: a log lodge set on 15 acres overlooking a two-mile long lake and the Todrillo Mountains. The intimate accommodations (complete with hot tub and wood-burning sauna) offer the ultimate wilderness getaway. Activities include hikes along the historic Iditarod trail, to Red Lake, and along a ridge offering views of Mt. McKinley; kayaking or canoeing; swimming; yoga; cooking classes and more. Soak up the silence here before heading to Redoubt Bay for bear viewing on Wilderness Lodge & Bears Experience.
Grande Denali Lodge
On our Explore Denali National Park program, you’ll approach Denali National Park aboard the famous Alaska Railroad dome train—a prime example of the journey being as much of the experience as the destination. You’ll soak up panoramic views of tundra and even Mt. McKinley en route to your hotel, the Grande Denali Lodge. The setting doesn’t get much better, and the next morning you’re positioned to embark on an all-day wildlife tour of the park.
Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge
Located just outside of Denali National Park, Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge offer views of Mt. McKinley. Staying here for two nights on Explore Talkeetna allows for a phenomenal day of sightseeing and activity in between. We recommend a flightseeing trip over the peaks and gorges of Denali National Park—including up close views of Mt. McKinley and a glacier landing. After lunch, you’ll be off on another sort of adventure, jet boating along the Talkeetna, Chulitna and Susitna Rivers.
Hotel Alyeska
A drive along the Seward Highway will deliver stunning views—with an interesting stop or two along the way to Hotel Alyeska. Our Hotel Alyeska Resort Retreat includes two nights here, where elegant accommodations (including a full spa) are set amongst rugged mountains in the most serene of settings. The next day, we’ll helicopter you to a nearby ice field for an unforgettable dogsledding experience. Mush On!
Kenai River Sportfishing Lodge
A mere hour’s drive from Seward, this charming log cabin lodge is surrounded by 3,000-foot snow-capped mountains on the banks of the upper Kenai River. On Kenai River Sportfishing, enjoy up to eight hours of fishing daily; depending on the season, fish varieties include sockeye and king salmon, rainbow trout, and dolly varden. |
