Luxury Train Travel Canada
Trains hold a special place in Canada’s history—and remain a wonderful way to travel and discover some of the country’s most scenic pockets. At Entrée Canada, we customize rail journeys in both the east and the west, creating memorable holidays that hark back to the glory days of train travel.
Since the early days of nationhood, trains provided an important means of transportation in Canada, linking remote communities from coast to coast. The construction of the railroads was responsible for the development of much of the West, and some of the most prestigious hotels in the country were built by Canadian Pacific Railways more than a century ago. Today, the tradition and romance of luxury Canadian train travel endure, and Entrée Canada works with the nation’s two primary suppliers—VIA Rail and Rocky Mountaineer—to craft trips through the Rockies and in Québec.
VIA Rail Canada
Established as a separate crown corporation in 1976, Via Rail operates trains over 14,000 kilometres of track across Canada, incorporating much of the historic Canadian National Railways and Canadian Pacific Railway networks. Its most popular route is the Québec City to Windsor corridor, which includes stops in Toronto, Montréal, and Québec City. All corridor trains offer business class service, with upgraded cars, reclining seats, power outlets, Wifi, full meal service, priority boarding, and access to the private Panorama Lounge in both Montréal and Québec City stations.
The leading train providing service though the Rockies, the award-winning Rocky Mountaineer offers three levels of onboard experience through its GoldLeaf, SilverLeaf and RedLeaf services. With GoldLeaf, passengers travel in the custom-designed GoldLeaf Dome Coach, a bi-level car that offers panoramic views of the Canadian Rockies through its full-length dome windows, a separate dining room with picture windows, and an open-air observation deck ideal for snapping photographs. RedLeaf is the train’s classic service, featuring reclining seats and large picture windows. New for 2011, Silverleaf service offers an experience somewhere between the two from a single-level dome coach.
Our Rail Travel Itineraries
Each of our rail journeys combines train travel with the hallmarks of all of our packages: luxury accommodations and unparalleled travel experiences. We utilize the country’s premiere trains and routes to highlight spectacular scenery or to connect great centres in the most convenient and elegant way. On Ultimate Rockies by Rail, two days aboard the Rocky Mountaineer GoldLeaf dome car lets travellers view spectacular mountain scenery from Jasper to Vancouver, including Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Rockies—an experience that is complemented by sightseeing in Banff and Lake Louise, a helicopter tour and eco-tour in Jasper, and plenty of time for exploring Vancouver. On the RMR GoldLeaf Getaway, travellers are met in Vancouver for the same unforgettable two-day train journey, with nights in Vancouver and Banff on each end. La Belle Province by Rail features historic accommodations and walking tours in the sophisticated cities of Montréal and Québec City—linked by a scenic three-hour train journey.
As always, the packages we list here are mere starting points. Consider letting us build a trip specifically for you, combining time “on the rails” with wilderness retreats, urban getaways, or anything in between. We’ve got plenty of ideas for families, multi-generational groups, and romantic escapes. Give us a call!
