This 10-day/ 9-night trip is a self-driving adventure that combines two nights each in Whistler, Vancouver and Victoria with three nights in Tofino. In each location, you’ll stay in exquisite hotels, and enjoy enough downtime to hit the spa or simply enjoy your surroundings. Guided tours in Victoria and Vancouver ensure you make the most of each city, while in Whistler and Tofino, you’ll discover wildlife on whale watching and bear viewing excursions, and explore pristine wilderness on zodiac tours and guided hikes. Optional activities include river rafting, golfing, heli-hiking, fishing, ziplining, and sightseeing by floatplane or helicopter.
Road Trip Through Canada’s West Coast
Day 1
Upon arrival at Vancouver International Airport, you’ll pick up your full-sized rental car and enjoy a two-hour drive along the scenic Sea to Sky Highway to Whistler. Wander the pedestrian zone to check out the myriad shops and cafés before dinner. Accommodations are at the Fairmont Château Whistler in a Deluxe Slopeside Room.
Day 2
Take the Peak 2 Peak gondola (it travels between the peaks of Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains) for exceptional views, dining, and some of the most spectacular alpine hiking on the continent. In the afternoon, travel through old growth coastal hemlock-cedar forests on a guided bear-watching tour. Accommodations are at the Fairmont Château Whistler in a Deluxe Slopeside Room.
Day 3
Drive and ferry approx. 7.5 hours from Whistler to Tofino, on Vancouver Island’s magnificently rugged west coast. If there’s time before dinner, start exploring the Pacific Rim National Park. Hike along surf-swept beaches, centuries-old rainforest, or the new Wild Pacific Trail. Accommodations are at Wickaninnish Inn in a 2nd Floor Deluxe Room.
Day 4
Enjoy an exciting day’s zodiac excursion, in search of Gray whales, sea lions, & seals. Travel through the pristine waters of Clayoquot Sound, stopping at a sea cave, viewing black bears, and visiting a seabird-nesting island. Continue to Hot Springs Cove for a magical soak overlooking the Pacific. Accommodations are at Wickaninnish Inn in a 2nd Floor Deluxe Room.
Day 5
During your day “at leisure” in Tofino, options include sea kayaking, coastal bear viewing, guided nature walks, beachcombing, surfing, fishing, and horseback riding. Accommodations are at Wickaninnish Inn in a 2nd Floor Deluxe Room..
Day 6
Drive approx. 4.5 hours from Tofino to Victoria. If there’s time, start exploring the city on your own. Highlights include Antique Row, Chinatown, the famous Butchart Gardens, and afternoon tea at your hotel. Accommodations are at the Fairmont Empress in a Deluxe Harbourside Room.
Day 7
Enjoy the exhilaration of racing through the seas in an open-air zodiac on a half-day whale watching tour. In the afternoon, continue exploring historic Victoria at your leisure. Accommodations are at the Fairmont Empress in a Deluxe Harbourside Room.
Day 8
Between the drive and ferry, it will take you approx. 4 hours to make your way to Vancouver. From your hotel, take a walk along chic Robson Street, or head to nearby Granville Island or the impressive Vancouver Aquarium. Accommodations are at the Fairmont Pacific Rim in a Deluxe Harbourview Room.
Day 9
Enjoy a private tour of Vancouver, famous for its cultural diversity and spectacular parks. Explore downtown, Chinatown, and 1000-acre Stanley Park, then head to the North Shore for a coastal virgin rainforest walk and gourmet picnic lunch. Accommodations are at the Fairmont Pacific Rim in a Deluxe Harbourview Room.
Day 10
Drive to the Vancouver Airport and drop off your rental car in advance of your outgoing flight. Safe travels!
