Luxury Dogsled Holidays Canada

Day 1
Upon your arrival in Whitehouse, you will be met and driven to the Takhin River Valley and your lodge for the next six nights. After a delicious dinner, relax in the hot tub or settle in for some Northern Lights viewing with your favourite beverage. Accommodations are at the Homestead at Uncommon Journeys.

Day 2
Your dogsledding adventure begins! The first order of business is to begin introductions to your own dog team, which will stay with you throughout your journey. Bonding with your canine partners is a critical part of being a successful musher.

After a bit of Mushing 101, you will mush your team to the lunch site overlooking the beautiful Dam Lake. Following a fireside lunch of grilled caribou sausage, you will mush back to the Homestead, working on your balance and dog driving techniques. Accommodations are at the Homestead at Uncommon Journeys.

Day 3
Mush your dog team along the lower Ibex River Trail past active beaver dams, under the awe-inspiring cliffs of Mount North. This trail is a notch above the previous day’s trail in terms of difficulty, allowing you to progress to Mushing 201. Accommodations are at the Homestead at Uncommon Journeys.

Day 4
Go dogsledding to the wilderness basecamp, located in a spectacular valley with views in all directions. Much of the trail you will be mushing on has been cut right out of the raw wilderness, and herds of Dall sheep occupy the mountain slopes above. A resident wolf pack lives 10 miles down the trail and often comes down the frozen river to howl to our sled dogs on clear, cold nights. Accommodations are at the Yurt Camp at Uncommon Journeys.

Day 5
The dogs get a well-deserved day off today as you head off with a pack lunch on an interpretive snowshoe trip down the south end of the valley towards the wintering grounds of the southern lake caribou herd and the Ibex Valley wolf pack. Enjoy a relaxing sauna and shower before another incredible meal prepared on the wood cook stoves. Accommodations are at the Yurt Camp at Uncommon Journeys.

Day 6
You’ll leave the Yurt Camp today to mush back to the Homestead. There, enjoy a final dinner and perhaps watch a dogsledding video in the large screen home theatre. Accommodations are at the Homestead at Uncommon Journeys.

Day 7
For your final mush, consider adding another dog to the team to experiment with power, or opt to run a technically challenging trail. Later, we’ll return you to either a hotel or the airport in Whitehorse, depending on your plans. Safe travels!
