Seward is the embarkation and disembarkation point for most cruises from Vancouver, B.C. and Seattle. We’ve arranged for a wide variety of day trips that can be enjoyed pre or post-cruise en route between Anchorage and the cruise ship terminal in Seward. Southcentral Alaska is one of the best areas of the state to explore, and we’ve designed our private shore excursions to make the most of the time you’ll have in the area before or after your cruise. Each Seward shore excursion offers a relaxing and private alternative to the mass transfer options offered by the cruise companies.

Transfer with Glacier Dogsledding (7-hours)

On this private scenic transfer between the Seward ship dock and the Anchorage International Airport or hotel, you’ll enjoy a brief helicopter flight and a glacier dogsledding trip. After your helicopter ride has deposited you on the glacier, your guide will explain the origins of this special breed of dogs, mushing history, and the Iditarod—commonly known as “The Last Great Race on Earth.” Your guide’s passion for the sport is evident as he speaks about the Iditarod and his lifelong commitment to the dogs and the sport of mushing. He will tell you how to properly care for the dogs in order to maximize their racing abilities, show you how to harness them, and speak to you about the science involved in race preparations. You will have the opportunity to help harness the dogs, and you’ll witness the excitement as they are put in front of a sled. Then, accompanied by your guide, you’ll take to the trail. This is a quintessential Alaskan experience—not to be missed. You will also stop for lunch (on your own) and a bit of sightseeing en route to Anchorage. Note: This tour is also available in the reverse, and is also available to/from Whittier.

Transfer with ATV Adventure (7-hours)

This private scenic transfer between the Seward Cruise Terminal and the Anchorage International Airport or your hotel includes a stop at The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center and a guided ATV adventure. After traveling to the Bird Creek Trailhead, you will become acquainted with your ATV and some safety guidelines, then take a test ride before setting off on your adventure. The first stop is about 20 minutes up the trail at Penguin Creek—an excellent opportunity for pictures. Continuing up the trail to a high alpine meadow, you’ll be able to scan the upper elevations for sheep, moose, and bear. On the return, you will have the opportunity to hike to an overlook where an eagle’s nest is located and then, depending on the time of year, continue down to a waterfall to watch spawning salmon. Note: This tour is also available in the reverse, and is also available to/from Whittier.

Redoubt Bay Lodge Bear Viewing & Natural History Tour (10-hours)

Alaska is a land of great experiences, but none quite matches that of watching brown bears feed on salmon in a remote wilderness stream. This adventure is all about giving you that experience in a day trip to a pristine lake, with a small, comfortable wilderness lodge to serve as home base. To start, your private driver will transfer you from the Seward Cruise Terminal to Lake Hood, America’s largest floatplane base. From there, you will fly 50 minutes across Cook Inlet to the Redoubt Bay Bear Sanctuary. After lunch at the Redoubt Bay Lodge, you’ll spend three hours in a boat viewing bears at any one of five salmon spawning streams accessible by boat from the lodge. This is one of the safest and most comfortable ways to view bears up close. You will return to Anchorage by floatplane in the early evening, arriving at about 7:00pm Your driver/guide will transfer you the short distance from Lake Hood to the terminal for your outbound flight, or to your Anchorage hotel. Note: This tour is also available in the reverse, and is also available to/from Whittier.

Includes: Private vehicle, driver, scheduled roundtrip floatplane flight to and from Redoubt Bay Lodge, shared bear viewing adventure and lunch served at the Lodge.
