Northwest Territories is a place that lives unapologetically wild and free. Travelers come here to leap outside their comfort zones, to live big and reconnect with their thirst for adventure. Northwest Territories is a reminder of why we travel – for the thrill of the unexpected, the joy of an epic adventure, and the desire to live in a way we aren’t used to.

Important message to set expectations.
We are so pleased you’ve found your way to this exciting adventure that was built with explorers in mind. While Entrée Canada is known for meticulous planning and smoothly operated journeys, the nature of travel to Canada’s remote destinations can often be unpredictable.

Our hosts have committed to welcoming guests with glowing hearts; however, they aren’t always able to guarantee themselves on a given day. Should one of your hosts be unavailable for unforeseen reasons, we will do our best to connect you with other interesting locals, activities and meaningful experiences.

Weather plays a critical role in these remote areas, and this might significantly impact your trip. We cannot emphasize this enough: be prepared for changes, rearranged services, and cancellations to ensure your safety. As always, we will be at your service to communicate alternatives and solutions.

Lastly, please know that many of the accommodation partners in these remote places are the best available (and we love them) – however, they are typically more rustic than the luxury lodges and resorts we partner with across Canada.

If you prefer more predictable outcomes and upscale accommodations, we are happy to suggest a well-suited journey. If you are an explorer who wishes to travel to remote areas and embrace the unpredictable, fasten your seatbelt and read on. This is where unscripted begins.

The Itinerary

1 | YELLOWKNIFE, NWT

Welcome to the north! Upon arrival at Yellowknife Airport, your host – a member of the Dene First Nation – will take you to the hotel to check-in and relax. The afternoon is at your leisure, though we highly recommend popping into NWT Brewing Co. for a flight of local craft beer. Accommodations are at The Explorer Hotel in a Deluxe King Room.

2-4 | EAST ARM OF GREAT SLAVE LAKE, NWT

Today, you’ll take a wheel plane to Lutselk’e, then a five-minute boat ride to the Indigenous-owned Frontier Lodge (accommodations available starting 2023). Here, at the gateway to Thaidene Nëné – a National Park Reserve sprawling 6.5 million acres – you’ll find an unparalleled fishing paradise. Here, in this global mecca for trophy lake trout fishing, you’ll embark on guided excursions to Great Slave Lake, where you’ll spend several exhilarating hours reeling in gigantic lake trout, arctic grayling and northern pike. When your arms get tired, turn to the lodge’s many other nature-based activities – hiking, canoeing, wildlife viewing (including muskox, black bears and moose), and scanning the skies for the northern lights. Accommodations are at Frontier Lodge in a Private Cabin.

5 | FORT SIMPSON, NWT

Today, you’ll head to Yellowknife Airport for a scenic flight to Fort Simpson, the gateway to Nahanni National Park – the world’s first UNESCO Heritage Site and home to the Dehcho First Nation since time immemorial. Accommodations are at Lady Slipper Lodge in the best available room.

6 | FORT SIMPSON, NWT

Good morning! Today, transfer to the local seaplane base for your first attempt into magical Nahanni National Park. If the journey is successful, you’ll soar through canyons, watch for wildlife, see thundering Virginia Falls, then land and take a short hike to see the falls up close. In the evening, take part in a traditional land and fire feeding ceremony with a Dene Elder, complete with stew and bannock, drumming and stories of the Dene way of life. Accommodations are at Lady Slipper Lodge in the best available room.

7 | FORT SIMPSON, NWT

Today, you’ll have another attempt at visiting Nahanni National Park, if required; otherwise, feel free to roam Fort Simpson. Afterward, fly to Fort Providence, situated to the west of Great Slave Lake. From here, your guide will drive you along the lake, where bison are known to wander with their herd. The rest of the evening is yours to enjoy. Accommodations are at The Explorer Hotel in a Deluxe King Room.

8 | FORT SIMPSON, NWT

After breakfast, head straight for the airport to catch your flight home. The trip might be over, but the people and places of the North will stay with you forever.
