This post-cruise excursion offers a brief but intense Alaskan experience based out of Hotel Alyeska in Girdwood. With the aid of a helicopter, you’ll be whisked to an ice field for that most quintessential of Alaskan activities—dog sledding. Other highlights include wildlife viewing and driving past some of the most stunning scenery in the country.
After disembarking from your cruise ship, you will be driven by private transfer to Girdwood along the spectacular Seward Highway. Stop along the way to visit the Alaska SeaLife Center, where you’ll be taken on a private behind-the-scenes tour to see endangered stellar sea lions, harbor seals, and more. A second stop at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center allows you to view additional Alaska wildlife up close. Accommodations are at The Hotel Alyeska, Deluxe Room.
After a short and scenic helicopter flight to a nearby ice field, you’ll receive a personal introduction to the sport of dogsledding. Your guide will explain the origins of this special breed of dogs, mushing history, and the Iditarod, known as “The Last Great Race on Earth”—then show you how to harness the dogs and take you onto the trail. You will have a chance to drive the sled yourself or sit in a comfortable seat and enjoy the ride. Accommodations are at The Hotel Alyeska, in a Deluxe Room.
Your driver will transport you from the hotel to Anchorage International Airport in time for your departing flight. Safe travels!
