2 | KANANASKIS, AB
Rise and shine! Today, you can choose your own adventure. Option one is a scenic fat biking adventure that visits a waterfall frozen by sub-zero temperatures. After lunch and a quick fireside warm-up, you’ll continue to Peter Lougheed Provincial Park for an invigorating snowshoe into the forest. Option two is a thigh-burning cross-country ski experience, followed by lunch and snowshoeing. After such an active day, you’ll appreciate the chance to unwind in the evening. Accommodations are at Mount Engadine Lodge in a Private Cabin.
3 | BANFF, AB
Mid-morning, your driver will arrive to take you to Canmore, whose downtown is nestled between the Bow River and the Rocky Mountains. Here, you have free reign to wander the shops and enjoy the ambience of an authentic mountain town. After an early lunch and beer flight at a local brewery, continue to Banff, a resort town housed in Banff National Park. Spend some time exploring at your own speed before joining an afternoon culinary tour that takes place entirely within the Fairmont Banff Springs, a National Historic Site. The rest of the day is up to you. Accommodations are at Buffalo Mountain Lodge in a Buffalo Suite.
4 | BANFF, AB
After breakfast, you’ll be treated to a full day of private guided sightseeing in Lake Louise, Yoho National Park and Johnston Canyon. The journey celebrates Banff’s sparkling, snowy landscape, and culminates in an unforgettable ice walk past mighty waterfalls that have been frozen into glittering pillars of ice. Accommodations are at Buffalo Mountain Lodge in a Buffalo Suite.
5 | CALGARY, AB
Today, you’ll meet your Indigenous guide for a leisurely stroll in the forest, where you’ll learn about historical medicines of the boreal forest from a Cree lineage. Your guide will also teach you how to navigate basic first aid using only plants, as well as the basics of making medicine. After lunch, embark on a private helicopter tour that soars over Mt. Assiniboine – a peak that rises 3,611 meters (11,870 feet) along the Great Divide and is surrounded by glaciers and icefalls. The rest of the afternoon is spent at a nonprofit wolfdog sanctuary, which rescues abandoned or injured wolfdogs. Wander the sanctuary’s pathways and interact with the pack, while learning how wolves behave around people and understanding the growing importance of wolf conservation. Accommodations are at the Hotel Arts Kensington in a Luxury Suite.
6 | CALGARY, AB
After breakfast, you’ll be transported to Calgary Airport for your flight home. However, if you’re not quite ready to bid adieu to Alberta, there is an option to stay two additional nights. If you decide to continue your journey, you’ll be taken to Métis Crossing, the province’s first major Métis interpretive destination. Here, you’ll take a sleigh ride through the historic site, hearing stories about this ancient place and learning about the original settlers to the land. End the evening with a hearty bison stew dinner. Accommodations are at Métis Crossing in a Star Watching Glass Pod.
Optional Add-on at Métis Crossing
7 | SMOKY LAKE, AB
After breakfast, take part in a wildlife tour at the Métis Crossing Wildlife Park, guided by bison rancher Len. The experience welcomes the return of heritage species to traditional Métis lands, symbolic of the connection between local Métis and the land on which their ancestors once hunted and lived. During the tour, you can glimpse rare white bison, wood bison, plains bison, elk and Percheron horses, while learning about their significance to the Métis people. After lunch, join a trapline experience that involves strapping on snowshoes and searching for signs of wildlife. The experience ends with traditional arts and crafts incorporating ingredients from the land. Next, you’ll have a special dinner that includes cultural storytelling, before returning to your pod and gazing through a telescope to the night sky. Accommodations are at Métis Crossing in a Star Watching Glass Pod.
