The Itinerary
1 | LODGE AT WHALE PASS, AK
Upon your arrival at the airport in Ketchikan, you will be escorted to the adjacent floatplane dock for a scenic 40-minute seaplane flight to your lodge on the north end of Prince of Wales Island. Settle in and watch the eagles fly overhead prior to dinner. Accommodations are at The Lodge at Whale Pass, in a Lodge Room.
2 | LODGE AT WHALE PASS, AK
During your time at the lodge, pick and choose among the myriad of outdoor adventures on offer. Hundreds of rivers, lakes and streams invite you to cast a line; catch salmon in season, or cutthroat trout year-round. If saltwater fishing is more your thing, head offshore for halibut, king salmon, silver salmon and rockfish. Accommodations are at The Lodge at Whale Pass, in a Lodge Room.
3 | LODGE AT WHALE PASS, AK
On this day-long adventure, you’ll visit one of Alaska’s quintessential destinations, the LeConte Glacier. LeConte Glacier is the southernmost tidewater glacier in the Northern Hemisphere, and it’s almost as if it’s alive – constantly fracturing and calving as pieces of ice tumble into the bay. Kayaking among the icebergs and harbor seals is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, as is the return trip from the Glacier to your lodge, via a scenic seaplane ride. Accommodations are at The Lodge at Whale Pass in a Lodge Room.
4 | LODGE AT WHALE PASS, AK
Today you’ll explore the Inside Passage further with lodge-based activities. Wildlife abounds within the Inside Passage. Black tail (Sitka) Deer, Loons, Black Bears, Bald Eagles, Harbor Seals, Arctic Ravens, Gray Whales, Wolves, River Otters, Martin and Mink can be seen out around the island, and from the Lodge! Orcas, Roosevelt Elk, Sea lions, Brown Bears, Humpback whales, Sea Otters, Dall’s Porpoise, and more can be seen within an hour boat ride or seaplane flight. Accommodations are at The Lodge at Whale Pass in a Lodge Room.
5 | LODGE AT WHALE PASS, AK
Today you’ll board a seaplane bound for the Bradfield Canal, where upon landing a short hike will lead you into the heart of bear country. As you pass streams and hike through old-growth forest, keep your eyes peeled not only for bears but for bald eagles circling overhead. Once you arrive at the ranger-patrolled observatory platform, you’ll have the chance to watch bears as they feed on salmon a mere stone’s throw away. Accommodations are at the Lodge at Whale Pass in a Lodge Room.
6-7 | LODGE AT WHALE PASS, AK
There are countless activities to be enjoyed at the lodge, and if you haven’t tried your hand at fishing, sea kayaking or exploring the nearby trails – now is your chance. You may wish to paddle the placid ‘home waters’ of Whale Passage, accessible right from the dock. Alternatively, enjoy a fully guided excursion to distant islands, fjords and glaciers as you strap your kayak to a SUB (sport utility boat) and travel further afield. Accommodations are at The Lodge at Whale Pass in a Lodge Room.
