The Itinerary

1 | HALIFAX, NS

Upon arrival at Halifax Airport, pick up your full-sized rental vehicle and cruise to the newly opened Muir, the city’s first five-star property. There’s plenty to see and do in this central location along the downtown waterfront, including shopping for sweets at a storied chocolatier that’s been lauded by the likes of the Canadian Prime Minister. In the evening, dine at your leisure in Halifax and get a good night’s rest in preparation for the week’s adventures. Accommodations are at Muir Halifax in a Deluxe King Waterview.

2 | BADDECK, NS

This morning, enjoy a leisurely four-hour drive to Baddeck in Cape Breton – along the way, you can stop for a hearty helping of some of the best seafood chowder in Atlantic Canada. After checking into your resort hotel, spend the rest of the day exploring at your own speed. There are plenty of activity options at your host property, including kayaking, jet-skiing, lounging in the hot tub, and golfing at the nearby course. In the evening, consider joining a lively lobster supper with a Baddeck family. Accommodations are at Inverary Resort in a One Bedroom Suite.

3 | BADDECK, NS

Good morning! Today, you’ll be treated to valley and coastal views as you drive a circle route along the famed Cabot Trail, a 298-kilometre (186-mile) highway weaving through Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Along the way, stop at secluded beaches, marvel at historic lighthouses, and hike the scenic Skyline Trail, where dramatic cliffs give way to panoramic ocean views. Then, drive to Chéticamp, a cozy fishing community marked by a strong French Acadian culture. Here, visit a local artisan and learn the traditional art of rug hooking, then continue browsing the myriad of local shops and museums. In the evening, enjoy dinner at your leisure. Accommodations are at Inverary Resort in a One-Bedroom Suite.

4 | LUNENBURG, NS

Today, drive from Baddeck to the home of the Eskasoni First Nation, who have developed an interactive, multicultural experience showcasing Mi’kmaq and Gaelic cultures, complete with tutorials on drumming, smudging and traditional medicines. Afterward, continue your journey to mystical Oak Island, a tree-covered area that has intrigued treasure hunters for centuries. Here, you’ll take a guided sea tour around the island, learning about its turbulent shipwreck history. Then, drive the final stretch to Lunenburg – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – and spend the rest of the evening relaxing in your suite or treating yourself to a seafood feast at a bustling waterfront fish shack. Accommodations are at the Alicion Bed & Breakfast in the Kingfisher Suite.

5 | EAST KEMPTVILLE, NS

This morning, you’ll be treated to a guided walking excursion of Lunenburg, a charming, personable town founded in the 1700s. Along the way, you’ll learn about the people and moments that shaped the fabric of the region, including a historic moment when residents banded together to rebuild their community church after a fire destroyed it. Afterward, drive to Trout Point Lodge, a luxurious eco-resort situated in the UNESCO Southwest Nova Biosphere. You’ll be welcomed with an exquisite feast of Atlantic Acadian cuisine that incorporates local seafood, organic ingredients, wild woodland delicacies and produce from the resort’s gardens. Accommodations are at Trout Point Lodge in a Fireplace Junior Suite.

6 | EAST KEMPTVILLE, NS

Spend today taking part in your choice of the lodge’s many activities. Seeking introspection? Forest bathe in the surrounding Tobeatic Wilderness, or take a guided foray along the wooden boardwalks and nature trails. Prefer an active excursion? Kayak, canoe or stand-up paddleboard in the river, or add a fly-fishing adventure to your stay. If you would rather rejuvenate, relax in a riverside cedar barrel sauna or hot tub, or treat yourself to a massage. In the evening, take advantage of the lodge’s distinction as the world’s first starlight hotel to stargaze under some of the darkest skies in North America. Accommodations are at Trout Point Lodge in a Fireplace Junior Suite.

7 | HALIFAX, NS

This morning, drive along the Bay of Fundy – home to the world’s highest tides – en route to Halifax. Along the way, you’ll have an opportunity to stop at the Grand Pré National Historic Site, once the epicentre of Acadian culture and now an important memorial. Consider dining on lobster for lunch, then visit Nova Scotia’s oldest farm winery for a tasting flight of Tidal Bay wines, which can only be grown in this province. Once you’ve arrived in Halifax, spend the rest of the day on a Segway or walking excursion downtown, or cruise the harbour in an iconic tall ship. Accommodations are at Muir Halifax in a Deluxe King Waterview.

8 | HALIFAX, NS

After breakfast at your hotel, drive to Halifax International Airport. It’s time to say farewell to Nova Scotia, but now that you’re part of the family, you’re welcome to return anytime.
