Multisport Alaskan Adventure Tour

Upon your arrival at the airport in Ketchikan, you will be escorted to the adjacent floatplane dock for a scenic 40-minute floatplane flight to your Lodge on the north end of Prince of Wales Island. Settle in and watch the eagles fly overhead prior to dinner. Accommodations are at The Lodge at Whale Pass, Lodge Room.

Over your three days at the Lodge, pick and choose among the myriad outdoor adventures on offer. Hundreds of rivers, lakes and streams invite you to cast a line; catch salmon in season, or cutthroat trout year-round. If saltwater fishing is more your thing, head offshore for halibut, king salmon, silver salmon and rockfish. Accommodations are at The Lodge at Whale Pass, in a Lodge Room.

Another day at the Lodge offers more options than you can count. Hike or ride a mountain bike along hundreds of miles of remote logging roads, or go caving at El Capitan—the largest known cave in Alaska. Lodge staff can help you spot the wide array of flora and fauna on the island, including blacktail deer, loons, black bears, bald eagles, harbor seals, Arctic ravens, gray whales, wolves, river otters, martin and mink. If you haven’t done it yet, we recommend whale watching on your fourth day; a number of species migrate through the inside passage, including the gray, humpback, and orca. Another great option is paddling among the numerous bays and inlets nearby, or strapping kayaks onto a Sports Utility Boat bound for distant islands, fjords and glaciers. Enjoy a final morning and lunch at the Lodge before boarding your floatplane bound for Ketchikan and your pre-arranged Alaska Airlines flight to Anchorage. There, a driver will meet and transport you to your hotel in the city. For dinner tonight, we leave you to dine on your own, chose from one of our favorite restaurants. After an early morning pick-up, you will board a floatplane that will transport you to your remote backcountry lodge. Accommodations are at Winterlake Lodge, in a Cabin.

Engage in any number of activities at the Lodge: hike along the historic Iditarod Sled Dog Trail, or along Wolverine Ridge, which offers views of Denali and the chance to spot black bears, moose, and wolves; go kayaking or canoeing; take a yoga class or therapeutic massage; or enjoy a cooking class with the resident chef or perhaps lodge owner, Kirsten Dixon. Your adventures on the eighth day are supported by a Robinson R-44 helicopter—allowing you to explore the pristine backcountry surrounding the lodge. Your options include sport-fishing, rafting on the wild Happy River, hiking to a glacier ridge, glacier trekking on a rarely visited section of the Alaska Range, or dining on Wolverine Ridge. Take a scenic floatplane flight through the Tordrillo Mountains and Triumvirate Glacier to Redoubt Bay Bear Sanctuary. A trained naturalist will take you by boat for an up close and safe view of the feeding brown bears. Late afternoon, board another floatplane to Lake Hood in Anchorage, from where you will be transported to your hotel. Accommodations are at Hotel Captain Cook, in a Junior Suite.

On your tenth and final day your driver will transport you from your hotel back to the Anchorage airport in time for your return flight. Safe travels!

After a transfer to Lake Hood this morning you’ll board a floatplane to Tordrillo Mountain Lodge. Nestled on the shores of Judd Lake, the activity options are endless. Activities for adventure-seekers include stand-up paddle boarding, jet skiing, and wake surfing. For guests seeking peace and quiet, there’s yoga on the dock, casting a line from the lawn, hiking nearby trails and wildlife observation. Accommodations are at Tordrillo Mountain Lodge in a Lodge Room.

Take to the skies over the next two days for helicopter-led adventures from your base at Tordrillo Mountain Lodge. Along with your expert guide, enjoy heli-hiking a wide variety of terrain where you can spot wildlife, trek across ancient glaciers or picnic in meadows of wildflowers. The choice is yours. If you’re looking to satisfy your need for speed there’s helicopter rafting through class 3-4 whitewater rapids. After breakfast you’ll board a floatplane returning to Lake Hood, for a full-day tour of Anchorage. You’ll ride the Alyeska Tram, which, at an elevation of 2,300 feet offers breathtaking views of Turnagain Arm and the Chugach Mountain range. Meet friendly (and furry) locals at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, a sanctuary dedicated to the preservation of Alaska’s wildlife through conservation, education, research and care.
