Welcome to Haida Gwaii, a wild landscape where the Haida people have lived since time immemorial. Here, the pace of life slows and visitors are encouraged to savour the beauty found in tangled forests, endless ocean and ancient village sites. Along with daily explorations to cultural destinations, you’ll meet Haida artisans and Elders, tuck into gourmet feasts, and roam the sandy beaches and emerald forests surrounding your accommodations. Your time on Haida Gwaii is bookended by stays in Vancouver, a world-class city marked by distinctive neighbourhoods, stunning natural beauty, and a broad range of cultural offerings. Note: prior to entering Haida Gwaii, you’ll need to take the Haida Gwaii Visitor Pledge, which outlines requirements for responsible and respectful touring in the home of the Haida Nation.

Important message to set expectations.
We are so pleased you’ve found your way to this exciting adventure that was built with explorers in mind. While Entrée Canada is known for meticulous planning and smoothly operated journeys, the nature of travel to Canada’s remote destinations can often be unpredictable.

Our hosts have committed to welcoming guests with glowing hearts; however, they aren’t always able to guarantee themselves on a given day. Should one of your hosts be unavailable for unforeseen reasons, we will do our best to connect you with other interesting locals, activities and meaningful experiences.

Weather plays a critical role in these remote areas, and this might significantly impact your trip. We cannot emphasize this enough: be prepared for changes, rearranged services, and cancellations to ensure your safety. As always, we will be at your service to communicate alternatives and solutions.

Lastly, please know that many of the accommodation partners in these remote places are the best available (and we love them) – however, they are typically more rustic than the luxury lodges and resorts we partner with across Canada.

If you prefer more predictable outcomes and upscale accommodations, we are happy to suggest a well-suited journey. If you are an explorer who wishes to travel to remote areas and embrace the unpredictable, fasten your seatbelt and read on. This is where unscripted begins.

The Itinerary

1 | VANCOUVER, BC

After touching down in Vancouver, your driver will take you to the elegant Wedgewood Hotel in the heart of the city. Spend the day exploring and relaxing – you have an incredible adventure ahead of you. Accommodations are at the Wedgewood Hotel in a Deluxe Suite.

2 | HAIDA GWAII, BC

This morning, your driver will take you back to the airport, where you’ll fly to Sandspit – the largest community on Haida Gwaii’s Moresby Island. From here, you’ll be escorted to Haida House at Tllaal, your home for the next four nights. Take a few moments to get settled in your oceanfront cabin, then join the Haida House team for a welcome and orientation session, complete with cocktails and conversation. Feel free to wander the banks of the Tlell River, or the shoreline of East Beach, before settling in for a gourmet, Haida-infused dinner in the main lodge. Accommodations are at Haida House in an Oceanfront Cabin.

3 | HAIDA GWAII, BC

Today, your cultural interpreter will lead you on a private guided tour of the Haida Heritage Centre, located at Kay ‘Llnagaay or “Sea-Lion Town”, an ancient village site in Skidegate. Designed to resemble the traditional Haida village that once stood in its place, the centre features a series of traditional longhouses and celebrates the living culture of the Haida people through language, art and stories. After your tour, spend time marvelling at Skidegate’s intricate totem poles. Then, visit various Haida artisan studios and carving sheds, where you’ll learn about the Haida art form from the artists themselves. The day ends with an opportunity to experience a traditional Haida meal in the home of a local Elder. Accommodations are at Haida House in an Oceanfront Cabin.

4 | HAIDA GWAII, BC

Today, you’ll be treated to a magical boating expedition hosted by a Haida guide. The journey begins at the ancient village site of K’uuna Skedans, located in Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve, a National Historic Site of Canada. Through interpretation by a Haida Watchman, your guide will share the history of the village, translate the stories etched into the various totem poles, and describe how the Haida people lived. Enjoy a barbecue lunch onsite, then return to Haida House for the remainder of your day at leisure. In the evening, convene in the dining room for a gourmet feast.
Accommodations are at Haida House in an Oceanfront Cabin.

5 | HAIDA GWAII, BC

Eager to learn more about Haida art and culture? Today, you’ll visit the northern village of Old Masset and join a master carver in his longhouse for an intimate conversation. Then, travel to North Beach and take a guided tour to the Blow Hole and up Tow Hill in Naikoon Provincial Park – the picturesque trail leads to a coastline covered in lava-like rock formations, towering cliffs and surging water that hits the shoreline and sends eerie clouds of mist into the air. At the top of the hill, scan the landscape for the legendary Rose Spit, an ecological reserve that’s the largest of its kind in BC. In the evening, you’ll enjoy another gourmet dinner accompanied by a special guest. Accommodations are at Haida House in an Oceanfront Cabin.

6 | VANCOUVER, BC

After breakfast, take a leisurely journey to the airport, stopping along the way for photo opportunities at stunning viewpoints. Wave goodbye to Haida Gwaii as you fly to Vancouver. Upon landing, your private transfer will deliver you to downtown Vancouver where the remainder of the day is yours at leisure. Accommodations are at the Wedgewood Hotel in a Deluxe Suite.

7 | VANCOUVER, BC

It’s your final day in Vancouver! Take a private transfer to Vancouver International Airport, and remember – you’re welcome to return anytime.
