Over the course of eleven days (ten nights) this trip will take you to Alaska’s heartland. Weather permitting you’ll see Denali, the continent’s tallest peak, travel by train through expanses of unspoiled tundra and forests, paddle glacier-fed waters, heli-hike, see abundant wildlife and learn about the history of this great state. With such an action-packed itinerary, it’s a good thing that the days are long in the Land of the Midnight Sun.

The Itinerary
1 | FAIRBANKS, AK
Your Alaskan adventure begins in the “Golden Heart City” of Fairbanks. You will be met on arrival by your driver for your transfer to your hotel, situated on the banks of the Chena River in the vibrant downtown district. Explore nearby riverfront parks, shop for local handmade gifts, visit one of several museums for an introduction to local history or simply enjoy a break at one of the outstanding restaurants or pubs. Accommodations are at the Fairbanks Springhill Suites by Marriott in a Suite.
2 | DENALI NATIONAL PARK, AK
Today you will be travelling to Denali National Park on the Alaska Railroad’s Denali Star. From your upper-level dome car seat you will have panoramic views of the Alaskan tundra, endless mountain ranges and deep river canyons while enjoying informative narration from an onboard tour guide. The unique outdoor viewing platform provides an excellent vantage point for photos. At Denali Depot you be met by your private guide for an introduction to the region and transfer to your lodge. Accommodations are at the Tonglen Lake Lodge in a Cabin.
3 | DENALI, AK
Today is an outdoor exploration like no other. You’ll begin with an immersive hike into the backcountry, led by your expert guide. Your hike is entirely customizable, and will be crafted with your interests and abilities in mind. Alongside your guide you’ll look for wildlife, learn about the local flora and enjoy tales of Alaska’s rich history. The afternoon will be spent with a float down Denali’s waterways. Boarding either a paddle or oar frame raft, this unique vantage point allows for taking in scenery otherwise unavailable on land. Accommodations are at the Tonglen Lake Lodge in a Cabin.
4 | DENALI NATIONAL PARK, AK
Today you’ll travel 95 miles into Denali National Park aboard the Denali Backcountry Adventure bus, where you may have an opportunity to spot moose, bear and other wildlife along the way. After lunch, return to the park entrance in a classic Alaskan bush plane, flying through the awe-inspiring Alaska Range, over glaciers, and past the North Face of Denali. Accommodations are at the Tonglen Lake Lodge in a Cabin.
5 | GIRDWOOD, AK
Today you leave Denali behind as you travel towards Girdwood on the scenic Parks Highway. You’ll enjoy stunning views of mountains, lakes and waterfalls. You’ll have the opportunity to stop along the way at scenic viewpoints to photograph wildlife, go on a hike or have a picnic. Be sure to be on the lookout for moose! Accommodations are at the Hotel Alyeska in a Summit Room.
6 | GIRDWOOD, AK
Today’s adventure begins by helicopter lift into the Chugach National Forest, providing spectacular views of glaciers and towering mountains along the way. After landing next to the Comet Glacier, you will hike downhill over snowfields and through alpine meadows to Spencer Lake for a rafting iceberg tour. The day ends aboard the Alaska Railroads Glacier Discovery Train as it returns you to Girdwood and your hotel for the evening. Accommodations are at the Hotel Alyeska in a Summit Room.
7 | KENAI FJORDS NATIONAL PARK, AK
Today your private adventure guide will escort you from Girdwood to the town of Seward. You will enjoy a cruise through the Kenai Fjords National Park, marveling at its rugged rainforest coastline, mountains, towering glaciers and abundant marine wildlife. Listen for the sound of giant slabs of glacier calving into the sea. On arrival at your lodge the staff will provide an orientation to the area, and you’ll have time for an optional afternoon activity. Accommodations are at the Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge in a Cabin.

Choose from a variety of guided activities suited to all energy and interest levels. Outings include sea kayaking amongst glacial ice, hiking to stunning viewpoints or canoeing around Pederson Lagoon. At the end of an adventure-filled day you may wish to soothe your muscles in the wood-fired cedar sauna, complete with Finnish Stove. Finish the day with a delicious and hearty meal featuring locally-caught seafood. Accommodations are at the Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge in a Cabin.
9 | ANCHORAGE, AK
Today you will board the lodge vessel for your return cruise to the Seward Harbor. En-route you will view spectacular scenery and may even spot seals, sea lions or whales. From the Seward Harbor a shuttle transfer will deliver you to the railway station, where you’ll board the Alaska Railroad’s Coastal Classic Dome Train for your scenic journey to Anchorage. From the glass-covered observation deck you’ll enjoy views of Kenai Lake, Spencer and Bartlett Glaciers, and Turnagain Arm. Accommodations are at the Hotel Captain Cook in a Captain’s Deck Deluxe King room.
